Refs give Winthrop another tournament championship. Coastal chokes again. UNC Asheville continues to be the only team who can beat Winthrop in the conference tournament.

I wouldn't agree with that refs part- not at all.. they were pretty bad both ways- WU had to win with their walk-on point guard due to fouls/injury..

The bottom line & I really hope our guys took note that WU buckled their defense down around 20-17 in the first half- the game was on pace to be at a 70+ point clip.. WU clamped down, Coastal started settling & falling in love with the perimeter shots & didn't make WU work on defense for very much of the shot clock.. Coastal did that the first 7-8 minutes of the game & either went away from it or WU forced them out of it.. refs didn't help WU.. WU won this game.

Joseph Harris had 3 pts/5 boards/4 TO's.. that's not the refs fault..

When refs decide to not call any contact against a physical defensive team, they effectively decide the game. I'm not really complaining. CCU will go to the NIT and Winthrop will go and get waxed again by a 1 seed (Duke?). Two post-seasons is probably good for the Conference. Winthrop winning again probably is not. They certainly get credit for hitting shots at the end of the season. We would have had a really good chance to have beaten them, but we decided to choke in Conway instead. Such a fine line between winning and not.

I guess I should amend my previous prediction about getting waxed by a one seed to getting roughed up by a 16 seed. Winthrop goes in with all their talent and loses the play-in game by 17 to Arkansas State at Pine Bluff. Winthrop moves to 0-2 in the play-in game all-time.

Pretty much the worst possible outcome for the conference. Thanks, Randy.

Winthrop becomes the first team to lose twice in the Opening Round (play in) game..

Arkansas-Pine Bluff finally found a road trip to its liking.

Allen Smith scored 14 points Tuesday night, including a pair of 3-pointers during the Golden Lions' second-half surge to a 61-44 victory over Winthrop in the NCAA tournament's opening game.

The Golden Lions (18-15) will play Duke -- the No. 1 seed in the West -- on Friday in Jacksonville, Fla., a stunning development given how their season started. Arkansas-Pine Bluff lost its first 11 games -- all on the road -- before rallying to earn the Southwestern Athletic Conference title and its first NCAA tournament berth.

The fast exit was familiar for Winthrop (19-14), which has made the tournament nine times in the last 12 years but has only one victory in all those tries.

Speaking of Arkansas Pine-Bluff.. Any Rashad Gil sightings this year???
